BarCamp Tampa Bay is upon us! Below is a rundown of details, info and last minute developments to prepare you for this weekend. We look forward to seeing you there!

It is not too late to invite your friends and colleagues! They can register at the door. Send the invitations NOW!

It is also not too late to present at BarCamp. Prepare a 10, 30 or 45 minute rant or presentation that relates to your passion, breakthrough or expertise in technology, innovation or new media and show up at 8:30AM the day of BarCamp to sign up to present.

If you are presenting please check out our video for facility and resource information.

Date: This weekend, October 11-12. The 1st day of BarCamp (Saturday) will be themed “Dev Day” and the 2nd day of BarCamp (Sunday) will be themed “New Media Day”. You are invited to attend and participate in both days.

Time: Registration / Check-in on Sat. is 8:30 to 9 AM. At 9 Am we start setting up the agenda. On Sunday, registration begins at 9 until 9:30.

The first 150 pre-registered folks per day get tee-shirts and a box lunch.

Directions to BarCamp: http://tinyurl.com/4dz84m

USF campus map (PDF): http://tinyurl.com/4gz24p

USF will be providing free WiFi for the campers.

Facebook Group: Don’t forget to check out our site on Facebook at http://groups.to/barcamptampa. Sign up to the group, post a message or a picture and get more information about the event. After the event you can post even more and keep up with other attendees. We will put additional information about the event, topics and attendees.

Follow us on Twitter: http://twitter.com/barcamptampa Post messages for all to see using either @barcamptampa or a hash tag (#) with #barcamptampa so everyone can see your posts. You may want to sign up for an RSS feed for the posts to barcamptampa so you can check it out afterwards. If you haven’t signed up for Twitter, please do so at http://twitter.com

There is also Twitter search (formerly Summize) so you can follow along using the Search function (at the bottom of your Twitter page) and search on either #barcamptampa or @barcamptampa. It’s a little extra work but well worth it and you will meet and be able to follow other Tweeters from BarCamp—a great way to build your network with people who share your interests in tech and New Media.

Grouptweet: We will be experimenting with another site for groups called Grouptweet. We have created an additional Twitter account for this event so that people can send a group Tweet to each other at the event. After you have signed up for Twitter, find and follow @barcamptampabay. You will be able to post a message to the group by using a Direct Message that will be distributed to the entire group following @barcamptampabay. To learn more about Grouptweet see: http://grouptweet.com

Hireme.TV will be at BarCamp to conduct optional short video interviews with job seekers. These interviews will then be available on their web site for hiring companies to see. If you are planning to conduct an interview, you might want to bring a dress shirt and jacket. You will be seen from the waist up in the interview. You can change clothes for the rest of BarCamp.

I am proud to announce that Bar Camp Tampa Bay will host The Great Internet Migratory Box Of Electronics Junk!

Come join us as we swap things with the TJIMBOEJ for a 2 hour slot, event room/time details to be announced on Saturday (Dev/Tech day). Please bring some electronic goodies that you would like to trade but, keep it small enough to fit in a USPS flat-rate Priority Mail box. We will write up, photograph, document and publish all swaps on a flickr site to be determined but tagged with TGIMBOEJ and TBTECH. You can see more info on the contents of our box coming all the way from Huntsville, AL at http://igotalongdomainname.com/tgimboej.html

Remember, the goal is to “swap-junk” - so bring items you may have lying around that are not of value which you are willing to trade for other ‘junk’ items.
What is The Great Internet Migratory Box Of Electronics Junk?
The Great Internet Migratory Box Of Electronics Junk is a progressive lending library of electronic components. An internet meme in physical form halfway between P2P zip-archive sharing and a flea market. It arrives full of wonderful (and possibly useless) components, but you will surely find some treasures to keep. You will be inspired to look through your own piles, such as they are, and find more mysterious components that clearly need to be donated to the box before it is passed on again.

You can read more about The Great Internet Migratory Box Of Electronics Junk at http://tgimboej.org

Unlike traditional meetings, a BarCamp, is what is known as an unconference where people interested in a wide range of technologies come together to participate, teach and learn. The format does not have scheduled speakers. Instead, the morning of the BarCamp, everyone proposes the sessions they would like to have covered. Those sessions are put on a schedule and groups form and start an intense session of learning. Everyone who attends a BarCamp is expected to teach and to participate. Anyone with something to contribute or with the desire to learn is welcome and invited to join.

People who attend should be prepared to share with barcampers, and when they leave be prepared to share it with the world.

This page has been placed for public commenting on both what they would like to see at Tampa’s BarCamp as well as what they would like to share. Please take a few moments to introduce yourself and share with the Great Tampa Bay area your vision for BarCamp Tampa!
